Petrof Piano Factory- makes own sound boards start to finish. This is very unusual for a factory to do the whole process with such exact control. Petrof has their own craftsman choosing the wood. Here we see resonant spruce which is grown at 800-1000 meter elevation. Wood is properly cut into quarters, then vertically pie shaped wedges. This allows the orientation of wood grain to be close to top on every piece. Elevation and climate of the spruce growth effects tone. For the best tone quality we want the darker summer rings close together. So 800-1000 meter elevation is optimal. Sound boards get the best of the best piece of wood. 3% wood is used for sound board, rest used elsewhere or becomes scrap. 3 levels of selection process to achieve sound quality.
