2024 Funza Lushaka Bursary Applications Now Open | Careers Portal

Do you want to study teaching and you're looking for a bursary? Good news! The Funza Lushaka Bursary is perfect for you and 2024 bursary applications are now open. If you're planning to study towards a Bachelor of Education (BEd) or a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) and you can't afford to pay your fees, this bursary is perfect. The bursary is available to South African citizens who want to study teaching degrees at university and does not have to be paid back. In return for receiving the bursary the recipients only have to work for the Department of Basic Education as a teacher for the same number of years as they were funded in their studies. Applications for the Funza Lushaka teaching bursary in 2024 opened in October 2023 and must be done online before the 2nd of February 2024. Because the Funza Lushaka bursary covers the Bachelor of Education (B.ed) and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) courses, these are not supported by NSFAS. The benefits of Funza Lushaka are very similar to NSFAS as it covers tuition fees, accommodation, meais, books and study materials, and a living allowance to cover day to day expenses.
