I'm NOT crying. YOU'RE crying. My eyes are just sweating from how hard I worked on this arrangement... In all seriousness, though, this arrangement was tough. The first two thirds were fairly straightforward - all I had to do was listen and write down what I heard. But then you get the orchestra starting to come in, and personally I find that complicate things a LOT. For one thing, it makes the piano line in the background much harder to hear. What I find even more challenging, however, is that harmonies that work with multiple instruments don't always translate the same to piano. Like, in the original recording you get these strings moving in the background, and it's super emotional and painfully beautiful, and then I tried to replicate that on piano and it just sounded...empty. Anyways, I really struggled with the last third of the piece. I could hear a piano line in the background, but I wasn't sure it actually sounded all that great when you stripped the violins away. I'm still not sure, to be honest. But I think I might go crazy if I try to work on this one any longer. A quick playing note for those large arpeggiated chords towards the beginning of the piece: You can choose to play them however is most comfortable, but personally I play the bottom three notes with the left hand, the next four with the right hand, and then the last top note with the left hand again. This is not a video of me actually playing, but a MIDI file rendered using Misescore. I do play through my arrangements to make sure they are possible, but I am extremely self conscious and have terrible stage fright. I hope one day to gain the confidence to post videos of my own playing, but for now I am starting out small and posting these sort of “proof of concept” videos. I am still new to arranging and very inexperienced, so feedback is welcome! This channel is intended to help me learn and grow, and maybe become a bit more brave! But it is not intended to be a tutorial, nor is it intended to frame me as some virtuoso piano player, because I’m not.
