Vavuniya-Horowpathana Road reopened 21st July 2009
The VavuniyaHorowapatana Road, which was closed for traffic for several years due to terrorist attacks, has been reopened.. In the past, many feared to take this route, as the area was dominated by the LTTE. Buses, trucks, motor bikes and bicycles were the targets of terrorist bombs. Transport came to a standstill, with the terrorist attack on a bus at Kebetigollewa which killed many innocent civilians. The people are now enjoying full freedom with the total elimination of terrorism. The Government is passing over the benefits of this freedom to the people. As another such initiative, the road running from Vavuniya to Horowapatana was reopened at the behest of the President. A new bus service is operating on this highway from today. The reopening took place under the patronage of Minister Tissa Karaliyadde and North Central Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake.
