Traditional ASMR Week May '16 #1: Non-speaking Sound Exploration

Welcome to Traditional ASMR Week! Where, barring any unforeseen issues, I will be bringing you 5 videos in a row, void of any theatrics. Please excuse the potato quality footage in the beginning: the camera was set to focus on objects closeup, since they are the centerpiece of this video. It gets better starting at the shaving cream part. Besides, these particular videos are usually meant to be listened by folks looking to relax, sleep and study, so the visuals aren't quite as important. Don't worry, I'll fix it for the next video! ;) Objects explored below in this video include sounds such as tapping, scratching, crinkling, page turning & flipping, and more: 00:00 Chalkboard writing 07:00 D&D Player's handbook 12:20 Friedrich Nietzsche's "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" 17:50 Brushing the microphone + hand movements 19:10 Vintage medical book 27:20 Shaving cream 33:20 Mic brushing Pt. 2 34:30 Leather coat 39:00 Plastic wrap 43:10 Empty jug 47:10 Mic brushing Pt. 3 48:35 Tissue package 52:10 Plague Doctor's mask 54:50 Wax paper Traditional ASMR Week May 2016 (This might be a thing I do periodically). What is ASMR? In my subjective view, ASMR is 2 things: a sensation and a medium (like music for example). The sensation itself (ASMR) stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and is the current (non-scientific) name given to the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand movements, whispering and personal attention. ASMR videos, the medium, are not only meant to help induce the sensation or "tingles", but also help provide a relaxing, calming and soothing experience for the viewer while helping to relieve their anxiety, stress, headaches, insomnia, to help those suffering with PTSD or depression, to serve as a study aid and much more. It is quite therapeutic, for both the creator and recipient, not much different than the mediums of music and painting. Many people who do not experience ASMR still enjoy the videos for their calming and sleepy affect.
