I was a little delirious at the end of this one - but this is in fact 2024 - Not 2022 as I say in my opening bit. I'll let you know up front that a lot of this video is me struggling to actually get back in the race. I was really looking forward to this technical race - and in that respect it did not disappoint. The first time I did this race was 2023. It was super wet, muddy, and a completely different struggle of a race. This year it was dry enough that they sent us through several miles of new rock gardens which I liked a lot. And added some all new sections that were slow-going because of the soft soil and big loose rocks and roots. That had to wait though because this race quickly went South, literally, only about 3-4 minutes in, when I ended up off-track and down over the side of the mountain ! The actual racing parts of the video and all the rock garden sections are worth watching after my trip through the forest. If you can't stand the hillside struggle skip to 32:10 or so. That's where I rejoin the race in the middle of everyone else's 2nd lap. Still winded from getting unstuck and struggling a bit the first lap, I didn't really get my heart rate down until the end of that lap. I then made two solid laps without any major bobbles at all. Howard's Hole went smooth every lap as well. I was dead last in 10th place the first lap and made my way up to 6th by the end - one lap down on the leaders. I Love the Snowshoe race. It's rare that you combine super slow, technical sections with super fast, wide-open sections like you do here. My top speed was 69 mph ! And the party atmosphere before and after the race is like no other. I can't wait to go back next year for some redemption. See you at the next one.
