WATCH THIS BEFORE MOVING TO AUSTRALIA: everything you need to know!

Everything you need to know: paperwork, public transport, medicare, SIM card, bank account, TFN, home address. This is the video I wish I’d had a few weeks ago when I was trying to apply for everything and sort myself out when I had first arrived in Australia. The topics I’m going to cover here are about getting your visa, getting an Australian SIM card, having an Australian address, getting an Australian bank account, getting a TFN and getting medicare. I also chat a bit about public transport as this varies a lot state to state and you need different things in different states. There are loads more things I could talk about but I feel that these are the key ones. I might do another video later down the line with more information about other things but for now I think these are probably the most important. Order to do things: 1. VISA 2. Australian SIM card 3. Australian address 4. Australian Bank account 5. TFN 6. Medicare Vias Process: * Working holiday visa subclass 417- https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas... * New arrangements for UK citizens applying for 2nd and 3rd year working holiday visas- https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/what-.... SIM cards: Main providers: Telstra- https://www.telstra.com.au/coverage-n... Optus- https://www.optus.com.au/living-netwo... Vodofone- https://www.vodafone.com.au/network/c... NOTE: Check you have VOLTE on your phone and that you can enable it, if not, ensure you go to each provider and check a SIM card in your phone first as it might be that they don’t work if you cannot enable VOLTE. We found that only Optus SIMs worked on a phone where VOLTE was not enabled. Australian address: If you can have a fixed address for at least 1 month it will allow you time to get your credit/ debit card and TFN and Medicare all sent there. Australian Bank account: Commonwealth Bank: https://www.commbank.com.au/moving-to... Medicare: Medicare enrolment: https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/... If your medicare form locks, try a different browser- mine did not work in safari so I used google chrome and it worked perfectly. I edited the form whilst still in chrome and then downloaded it at the end with changes saved. This worked (hooray) and did not lock the form. TFN: * Must be in Australia to apply * Need a phone number and an address for this as they have to send it to you and could take up to 28 days to arrive * TFN application- https://www.ato.gov.au/single-page-ap... Public transport: Varies state to state so see what works, NSW can use contactless card for everything, QLD need a ‘Go card’ for busses- will not accept contactless card. NSW- https://transportnsw.info Adult fares and caps in NSW- https://transportnsw.info/tickets-opa... Queensland- https://translink.com.au DISCLAIMER: these are all things I have learnt from my own personal experience. Please still do your own research as everyones circumstances are individual.
