(Quality Eng Subs) The Fake Monk- Hua Chenyu + Interview [Singer 2018] | 《假行僧》 华晨宇 歌词- 歌手2018第10期

DO NOT TAKE SUBS WITHOUT CREDITING ME. Pre-stage interview included! Feel free to add additional translations to the lyrics by clicking on settings and CC! Out of Hua's numerous renditions of this song, this version would be my favorite. Already a timeless, meaningful piece of music, Hua gave it even more emotion, more depth, and made it more powerful by stripping down the music to just a simple piano accompaniment, with only his voice to do the rest. As you may be able to tell, the lyrics here contain many symbolisms. In the first line, "south" and "north" have a deeper meaning beyond the surface. In the second line, I chose to translate it to "day" and "night," but the literal translation would be white and black. The reason I chose day and night are because in Chinese, day and night are each comprised of two words, and the first word happens to be white and black respectively, so I chose to interpret it that way. Also along with the fact that it goes with the journey from south to north and then: day to night. Others have interpreted it as good and evil, innocence and corruption, etc. etc. All revolve around a similar meaning. As for the rest, I tried to translate everything as literal as possible to keep those original symbols intact. The original composer of this song, Cui Jian, is known as the king of Chinese rock, and this is one of his masterpieces. For Hua to be able to breathe such new life into this old song, is just yet another example of his endless creativity and cunning in music. This video is a bit pixelated, and apologies for that. I cut the longer version Singer put out because their shorter video cut off the ending (that editor really needs to pay attention -_-), but for some reason, the longer version's quality isn't as good :/ ~~~ Subscribe for more translations!!
