In 2010, 64 rock sectors with 1,700 climbing routes were equipped with protection, and new routes and sectors are still being added on the neighboring islands of Telendos and Leros. In 2015, there were already 2,700 climbing routes. Thanks to climbing, the tourist season has practically extended to the whole year, the best conditions for climbing are in spring and autumn. Most routes are single-length, but Kalymnos also offers multi-length routes.
