The STS-5 space shuttle mission was the fifth flight of NASA's Space Shuttle program, launched on November 11, 1982. The mission's primary objective was to deploy two communications satellites into orbit, the first time the Space Shuttle had been used for this purpose. The crew also conducted a number of experiments, including testing a solar cell wing and studying the behavior of fluids in microgravity. The mission lasted a total of five days and successfully completed all of its objectives, making it a significant milestone in the development of the Space Shuttle program.
