In this video, you see Case I carrier operations. When I flew this, last night, all I could see was inside the cockpit. I recorded it as I flew it. Then, I used DaVinci Resolve to edit the cockpit scenes and the outside scenes together for you to see, generally, what I do to land on an aircraft carrier. The jet is an F/A-18c from VX-9 "Vampires", a training squadron out of California. My communications identifier is "308". The aircraft carrier is the John C. Stennis, CVN-74. The procedures I followed are (with a minor exception) exactly the same as the U.S. Navy must follow for all the Case 1 carrier operations. The video makes it look simple, but there are hundreds of things I must do and conditions I have to make sure of. Most of all this, I just skip past to give you an idea of the intensity of the flights in DCS. What I don't show is Air-to-Air refueling, low level flight, Air-to-Ground weapon deployment, Surface-to-Air anti-aircraft missile troubles, Anti-Surface-to-Air missile attacks, coordination with other pilots, navigation, planning, and weather. See? Lots of stuff I don't demonstrate in this short video. Just for you and Rob.
