The oil sensor seems to take a reading at certain intervals and then averages it out over time. The issue with this is that you may be burning oil faster than it can read ESPECIALLY if you do SHORT TRIPS. The oil level sensor will never get warmed up enough to actually give a good readout. So if you are leaking oil or burning oil and doing short trips, you could blow your engine easily because the sensor will never have time to do its work.
