The terms AC or alternating current and DC direct current are found within all areas of electrical and electronic engineering. They're very common and in fact the terms are often used to denote an alternating or direct waveform whether it is current or voltage. This video gives information about what AC and DC are, and a bit about their differences and what they're used for. The terms direct and alternating current refer to the current flow in a circuit. The most straightforward of the two is direct current or DC. As the name suggests, direct current flows only in one direction as we see in this circuit. Although the circuits may be more complicated, the basic concept of direct current is that it only flows in one direction and markings of positive and negative on a component or terminal can be defined. Direct current sources may be batteries, solar panels, dynamos, power supplies and the like. DC is used for many things, but particularly for powering electronic circuits, although some motors and other electrical items may use it as well as a number of other items. Alternating current is different. As the name suggests for AC, the current flow alternates between positive and negative. Often a sine wave may be be the ideal waveform, but this is not always the case. More information about AC and DC can be found here: https://www.electronics-notes.com/art...
