Suntory AO - World Whiskey REVIEW || A Whole World of Whiskey!

Is the Suntory Ao a good whiskey? Let's find out! This is a travel exclusive whiskey from Japan, but it's billed as a "World Whiskey", as it is made up of seven whiskeys from five different countries, but what are the whiskeys that go into the Suntory Ao? Well, from Japan, there are whiskeys from the Yamazaki and Hakushu Distilleries, there's bourbon from the Jim Beam distillery, a rye whiskey from the Alberta distillery in Canada, Scotland contributes two whiskeys from the Glen Garioch and Ardmore distilleries and Ireland rounds things out with a fruity whiskey from the Cooley Distillery. This might sound crazy, but surprisingly, this blend works out really well, and you can tell the folks at Suntory put a lot of effort into it. Suntory Ao tasting notes Nose: Immediately, the familiar bourbon notes of oak and caramel are apparent, on top of a core of malt, with some sweet vanilla and biscuity grains rounding it out. After sitting with it a while, I got some floral, notes as well as some apples, pears and a bit of lemon. Palate: Again, the bourbon influence leads, but is immediately followed with a nice smoky hug, it's not overly strong, but defiinitely smoky. This is all wrapped around some nice icing sugar notes and some pineapple candy sweetness. Despite only coming in at 43%, it does still have a nice, honeyed mouthfeel. Finish: Similar to many Japanese whiskeys I've tried, the finish is medium-short, and rather clean.
