Despite this, the show managed to achieve extraordinary success; Success which only began to wean after Davies' departure in 2010. 13 Years later, Davies made his triumphant return to the show just in time for its 60th anniversary celebrations. However, like his last stint as showrunner, his new era is already marred in controversy. This combined with the show's declining popularity over the past several years begs a question: Can Russell save the show? Or, alternatively, does the show even need saving in the first place?
