THE SECRET FENDER SIGNATURES The Punk of Prog outpunks the doyen of GUITARS, the Stratocaster, by TAPPING the punking living daylights out of it! Fender’s John Hill offered his Britpack of luminary guitarists custom Fenders in the quest to revive Fender from the corporate ravages of the CBS era that saw a desertion by the world’s great guitarists of Fender seen by 1981 as betraying the Golden Era of Leo Fender’s magnificent California dream making company! The USA’s great guitarists had deserted CBS’s Fender and when Hill started the conversations with the British Isles’s great guitarists, David Gilmour was playing Steinbergers, Eric Clapton was playing Giffens, Jeff Beck was playing Jacksons, Mark Knopfler was playing Schecters, Pete Townshend was playing ESPs, anything but Fender Stratocasters or Teles, and certainly not anything not made in the fifties or sixties by Leo’s Fender! Dan Smith and John Hill working out of Fender’s first Artist Relations office in the world in London were about to change the GUITAR world! Fender via London made custom guitars for all of the Fender Britpack luminary guitarists and they made the Punk Prog Tapboardcaster for Francis Dunnery, but they considered it uncommercially viable to make hundreds of thousands of them and like the Stepp and SynthAxe guitars nobody but the inventors of them could play them(!) so it was too esoteric and too PUNK.
