Dera supporters had turned violent immediately after Gurmeet was convicted by a CBI court of raping two of his sadhvis. Cops had fired at the rioters to quell the violence, leading to the deaths. While the police have named 16 other persons in the case, Honeypreet has been singled out for allegedly chairing a meeting of the dera's core committee on August 17 in which the violence is believed to have been planned.
