AI readiness in the Indo-Pacific

The Indo-Pacific is the most populous and diverse region in the world, with areas of energetic innovation and huge, youthful markets, putting it at the forefront of the digital revolution. Countries vary widely in their readiness for AI—from their ethical frameworks and data management practices to their investment in critical skills and infrastructure that can build competitive companies and make AI-enabled technology accessible and trustworthy to their citizens. This session examined how Indo-Pacific states, industry and civil society develop AI governance that translates across borders; how they ensure AI does not erode democratic rights and freedoms and that its benefits are equitably distributed and how they adapt to AI’s disruptive social impacts. Speakers in this session included: Urvashi Aneja, Founder and Director of Digital Futures Lab, Akiko Murakami, Executive Director of the Japan AI Safety Institute, Jonathan Rubinsztein, Global Chief Executive Officer of NUIX and Kate Seward, Manager, Director of Corporate External and Legal Affairs at Microsoft Australia and New Zealand.
