The rules and the guidelines that these states follow with taxes, real estate and business are generally on the same course. What happens there then spreads to other places. I believe their action to enact rent control on both office buildings and commercial properties throughout NYC will then only force more and more mom and pop landlords into bankruptcy or financial hardship. Rent Control is a vehicle to enact more regulation over private property which in turn makes it harder for the smaller investor to navigate. Landlords, property investors and real estate investors are blamed for the high prices and high costs of living however there are many more factors that need to be taken into consideration when we look at the full picture. Real Estate, Investors, and property investors bring in the businesses and the tax revenue that makes these locations worth living in. Without these investors the desirability to live in these locations would change forever and that is why you hear many say that New York is Dead.
