When I first started investing on my own I deposited small amounts of money to my account and gradually built a larger portfolio. Over the years, I withdrew from my account to use funds for home down payment. Along the way, I made a ton of mistakes from investing in speculative stocks (e.g. weed stock and penny stocks), following stock tips blindly (e.g. from Jim Cramer, Jeremy, etc.), stock picking without enough research and chasing high yield stocks. If I could go back in time and were to do it all over again, I would definitely stick to the simple/boring index ETF investing approach, which is the current approach my wife and I are pursuing from about a year ago through our 3-fund ETF portfolio. I think it would be a more accurate baseline for our portfolio to see how it grows over time. For reference, I had a real estate property that I sold last year and used the large proceeds from it to invest it in the stock market. It really helped to grow our portfolio size drastically.
