SUBSCRIBE Learn how tile the right way In this video I go through the layout process I used to figure out how to install my subway tile on a 1/3 running bond pattern. The tile was a 12'x4" subway tile and the customer wanted it staggered by one third. I show how I came up with the final layout for the entire shower before any tile was set or installed. It is very important to know what every tile cut will be at the wall corners, ceiling and floor. The tile layout is done for every tile job, be it a wall a floor or a ceiling, or anything else for that matter. The goal is to have the biggest cuts possible at every change of plane. Slivers should be avoided as much as possible, however in some cases because of the shape and dimensions of area to be tiled, small tile pieces, or cuts, can sometimes not be avoided, in that case the goal is to have the bad cuts at the most inconspicuous place in the shower, or where they will be few or hidden.
