In this talk, Institute for Education Policy Executive Director David Steiner argues that in the humanities, the K-12 education system has embraced skills over content knowledge to the great detriment of students—especially those who are underprivileged. He links the shift in part to an effort to affirm ever more narrow definitions of personal identity, making the teaching of universal insights and values almost impossible.
