Oregon has lots of great areas to explore and do a little prospecting. One popular spot near Portland is the Molalla River Recreation Corridor. The gold found in the Molalla River is believed to come from one primary source; The Ogle Mine. Decent gold was found in Ogle Creek, a tributary to the river. The ancient basalt flows create a beautiful backdrop for a day of prospecting. They also create nice cracks and pockets to capture gold. Move around and try different areas that look good. During the summer months when water levels have dropped there is a lot of good exposed bedrock. There are many miles of good river access to explore. Gold is almost always super-fine gold dust.
