Bilateral amputee receives new, personalized prosthetic legs

(ABC 6 News) - Wayne Eddy had his first amputation over 15 years ago. "I lost this leg because of diabetes and then 15 years later I lose this leg because of diabetes," Eddy said.  He turned a significant challenge in his life into making his prosthetic legs a work of art by putting pictures on them. "Here's my motorcycle, I like to ride motorcycles. Here's when I played Santa Clause." Thanks to Limb Lab, a prosthetic and orthotic company in Rochester. "Who better to talk about life after amputation than him?," Brandon Sampson, co-founder of Limb Lab, said. Eddy says not only can you lose your legs in 80 years, but you can also get them back.  Losing a limb is more common than people realize.  "Like Wayne said, losing a limb is pretty scary and it happens more often than people realize. Every day there are 500 amputations in the country. 80 percent of those are from diabetes," Sampson said. Eddy had prototypes for his new prosthetics for a few months while they made the ones with pictures on them. Which he got to see for the first time on Monday.  "Well I consider these conversation starters and it's all about me," Eddy said. Taking his first steps in his new prosthetic legs.
