I played a lot with different mic positions, EQ settings, soldered a phase reverse cable for snare bottom mic (my mixer doesnt have that button) ... but in the end its still just a stereo sum live recording. Im quite happy with the sound, but of course it doesnt come close to the amazing quality of ‪@memphisdrumshop‬ or ‪@drumcenternh‬ videos. I wanted to add: the star reserve copper sounds MUCH better in real life applications, sits well in any mix. I was suprised that I didnt like it so much "naked" in this experiment. It has a nice punchy, warm, fat sound, with very pleasant, medium long complex ring, but in the recording it lacks snare wires and rings a lot. Also g-walnut and spotted gum sound very similar on this recording, but in real life, the g-walnut is much more compressed and post-processed / EQed sounding with a lot of focus and punch, whereas the spotted gum has a ton more low mids (sounds larger, warmer, less sharp) with quite a bit less sustain. About the black beauty: no clue what Ido wrong, but I just cannot get the sound I like out of it, trying to sell it since a while now. So many people cant be wrong, so I kinda suspect its me and not the drum. :p hope you enjoyed it, feel free to leave a comment, cya round! // simon
