Bring in those herbs now, if you haven’t already, and dry them for your winter herbal larder. Life brings us bounty and drying is one option to tap that flow. Join me in the living room for a quick glimpse into drying herbs. Plus you’ll get to meet my ancient-drying-rack-of-a-friend. Why not fatten your herbal larder right now? I encourage you to go out there and harvest your leafy friends before frost hits. Good options are mints (the Menthas), lemon balm, lemon verbena, sacred basil, comfrey, sage, hardy marjoram, and really any leafy green / herb that looks healthy. True, some of the aromatics will be milder, but that’s okay, these will still make tasty food and tea. In the case of comfrey, its leaf is in prime form for making herbal infused oil. Sipping tea we forage ourselves always feels more nourishing and healing, and is more ecologically sane. Plus tea-gifts made from our hands are a delight to receive—the holidays are just around the corner.
