SALT SPRING ISLAND REFLECTIONS

Created in 1997 with my first Digital Video (DV) camera, a Sony VX1000. After decades of use, my trusty 16mm film cameras and editing gear were pushed aside in favor of the lightweight and compact DV format. Thus began a new era of documentary recording and computer based editing. I turned my lens on what interested me: Ruckle Farm Day, the Fall Fair, Pioneer Days as well as the stories First Nations by old-timers like, Bob Akerman. From several hours of raw footage, I cut together this 10 minute video. REFLECTIONS includes Lotus Ruckle, Val Gyves, Cyril Beach, Mike Byron and Robert Bateman, among other local legends.
