KGFP Korea Global Forum for Peace 2022 • Theme: North Korea’s Response in the Pandemic Era and Social and Economic Structure • Date & Time: September 1, 2022 (Thu) ┃15:30-17:00 (KST) • Organizer: Korea Institute for National Unification The rapid spread of coronavirus in North Korea has garnered increasing attention to escalating uncertainty in the Korean Peninsula and the social and economic ramifications of the pandemic on North Korea. The short- and long-term prospects on the Korean Peninsula are highly likely to be shaped by what kinds of policies North Korea would adopt in countering the COVID-19 pandemic and whether North Korea would establish a pandemic prevention system in the future. Against this backdrop, this session sheds light on social and economic shifts emerging in North Korea amidst the pandemic in light of policy environment, social structure, and human capital. The session also addresses the impact of such changes on the evolving situations in North Korea and the Korean Peninsula.
