Episode 325 Myra (Susan Jameson) is delayed by Walter Potts' (Christopher Sandford) fans outside her house. Walter who is unhappy about leaving wants to stay with the Tanners and confides in Laurie Frazer (Stanley Meadows) that he hates having to hide from fans. Laurie encourages him not to remain a window cleaner. Dennis (Philip Lowrie) plans to smuggle Walter out. Jerry (Graham Haberfield) measures the corner shop for Florrie’s (Betty Alberge) sub-Post Office suggesting a door change to stop draughts. Ena (Violet Carson) believes Walter should return to window cleaning. Walter asks Dennis to say goodbye to Elsie (Pat Phoenix) and Lucille (Jennifer Moss). He gives Dennis money for a bathroom to be installed at No.11. Disguised, Walter makes his escape. Lucille is upset he's gone. Ken (Bill Roache) and Val (Anne Reid) argue about him risking his job by writing to the papers over the lack of a school crossing. Val tells Dave Robbins (Jon Rollason) of her dislike for him but she soon changes her view when he tells her how lonely he has been since his Mother died. Ena submits a petition against Laurie's plans for a nightclub. An ambulance passes and Jerry reports that somebody has been knocked down. A devastated Albert (Jack Howarth) informs Val and Concepta (Doreen Keogh) that Susan Schofield (Ann Mitton) was the one knocked down as Dave led the school children across the street. A distraught Dave returns and Val comforts him while Ken criticises the authorities for their inaction.
