OPENING HYMN: NEH 368 Guide me, O Thou Great Redeemer 1. Guide me, O thou great Redeemer, Pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but thou art mighty, Hold me with thy powerful hand: Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more. 2. Open now the crystal fountain Whence the healing stream doth flow; Let the fire and cloudy pillar Lead me all my journey through: Strong Deliverer, Be thou still my strength and shield. 3. When I tread the verge of Jordan, Bid my anxious fears subside; Death of death, and hell's Destruction Land me safe on Canaan's side: Songs of praises I will ever give to thee. Old Testament reading: 2 Kings 4: 42-end “There came a man from Baal-shalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.” Epistle: Ephesians 3: 14-end “ ... that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, ... ” (GRADUAL) HYMN: NEH 425 O love, how deep, how broad, how high 1. O Love, how deep, how broad, how high! How passing thought and fantasy That God, the Son of God, should take Our mortal form for mortals' sake. 2. He sent no angel to our race Of higher or of lower place, But wore the robe of human frame, And he himself to his world came. 3. For us baptized, for us he bore His holy fast, and hungered sore; For us temptations sharp he knew; For us the tempter overthrew. 4. For us to wicked men betrayed, Scourged, mocked, in crown of thorns arrayed; For us he bore the cross's death; For us at length gave up his breath. 5. For us he rose from death again, For us he went on high to reign, For us he sent his Spirit here To guide, to strengthen, and to cheer. 6. All honour, laud, and glory be, O Jesu, Virgin-born, to thee, All glory, as is ever meet, To Father and to Paraclete. Amen. Gospel: John 6: 1-21 “And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.” SERMON; CREED; INTERCESSIONS; PEACE OFFERTORY HYMN: NEH 295 Let all mortal flesh keep silence 1. Let all mortal flesh keep silence And with fear and trembling stand; Ponder nothing earthly-minded, For with blessing in his hand Christ our God to earth descendeth, Our full homage to demand. 2. King of kings, yet born of Mary, As of old on earth he stood, Lord of lords, in human vesture, In the body and the blood: He will give to all the faithful His own self for heavenly food. 3. Rank on rank the host of heaven Spreads its vanguard on the way, As the Light of light descendeth From the realms of endless day, That the powers of hell may vanish As the darkness clears away. 4. At his feet the six-winged seraph; Cherubim with sleepless eye, Veil their faces to the Presence, As with ceaseless voice they cry, Alleluya, Alleluya, Alleluya, Lord most high! EUCHARISTIC PRAYER COMMUNION HYMN: NEH 276 Bread of Heaven, on thee we feed 1. Bread of heaven, on thee we feed, For thy flesh is meat indeed; Ever may our souls be fed With this true and living bread, Day by day with strength supplied Through the life of him who died. 2. Vine of heaven, thy blood supplies This blest cup of sacrifice; 'Tis thy wounds our healing give; To thy cross we look and live: Thou our life! O let us be Rooted, grafted, built on thee. CLOSING HYMN: NEH 436 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven 1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven; To his feet thy tribute bring. Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven. who like me his praise should sing? Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise the everlasting King! 2. Praise him for his grace and favour To our fathers in distress; Praise him still the same forever, Slow to chide, and swift to bless. Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Glorious in his faithfulness. 3. Father-like he tends and spares us; Well our feeble frame he knows; In his hands he gently bears us, Rescues us from all our foes. Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Widely as his mercy flows. 4. Angels, help us to adore him; Ye behold him face to face; Sun and moon bow down before him, Dwellers all in time and space. Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise with us the God of grace!
