Now that the strawberries have been harvested, it is time to control the runners by potting them in recycled mini plastic flower pots. It is important to fill the pot with soil, lay the runner on the soil and then bury the pot in the ground allowing the runner to go along the top of the soil. Adding compost and grass clippings will allow for the moisture to stay in the soil and keep weeds down which are both important to growing runner plants. Also, it is important to add the Alaska fish fertilizer, organic bone meal and blood meal after the strawberries are harvested and at the end of summer. In the fall, transplant the established strawberry plant from the runner in the pots and plant into old strawberry beds to add new life.
