New film announcement After making a handful of short films (incl. "The Rope Maiden", and "Difficultly Breathing"), I’ve been working quietly over the last four years on my first feature and I’m thrilled to announce that it is finally complete. "The Sound of Summer" is my first horror film since "Difficulty Breathing". While not a direct sequel, it could very well take place in the same mythical universe of deteriorating sanity at the hands of a maybe-human, maybe-not, being. This time, however, on a much larger, and much bloodier, scale. SYNOPSIS ________________________________________________________________________________________________ In the relentless heat of the gruelling summer, temperatures soar to blistering levels as cicadas emerge to sing their ear-shattering song. Months of continued exposure is enough to make anyone start to feel a little off. Anyone, that is, except that oddity the locals call ‘the Cicada Man’. Who is that strange man and why is he always walking around with boxes full of live cicadas? More important, what does he do with them? As the heat starts to get to our heroine, and her sanity depletes, real life and delusion begin to mix. Her darkest nightmares seep into our world and she fears the Cicada Man has planted his swarm of insects inside her. She must get them out – at all costs. Thus begins her downward spiral into extreme paranoia and self-mutilation. She just needs to make it through the summer. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Starring Kaori Hoshino as our leading lady, and Shinya Hankawa (Difficulty Breathing) as the Cicada Man. Helming the special effects is legendary artist Susumu Nakatani (VERSUS, PSYCHO=). The score is by industrial dark synth composer MICROCHIP TERROR. And helping out in a multitude of departments is "Cat Sick Blues" director, Dave Jackson. The premiere will be held this summer in Osaka’s Loft Plus One West, where the cast and crew will gather for a Q&A after the screening, which will be filmed as a special-feature inclusion for the DVD. No plans yet for a physical release. I’ve kept this project bottled up for YEARS, not having uttered a word to anyone beyond the cast and crew. I’m so glad, finally, to be able to share this with you and I can’t wait for you to check it out. Bring on the summer!
