The Forbidden CityPalace Museum, also today known as the Palace MuseumForbidden City, was initially built in 1420, the eighteenth year ofduring the reign of Yongle Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty. It covers an area of 1.06 million square meters. It is the largest and best preserved Chinese imperial palace complex and the highest paragon of ancient Chinese imperial architecture. In 1987, the Forbidden City was included in the UNESCO "World Cultural Heritage" list. 如果将南北引申长达7.8公里的北京中轴线比作一部乐章，那么位于中轴线中心的故宫无疑是最磅礴华美的高潮。故宫，又称紫禁城，初步建成于明代永乐十八年（1420年），占地面积106万平方米，拥有大小宫殿七十多座，房屋九千余间。它是我国现存古代宫城的唯一实例和最高典范，也是世界现存建筑基址占地规模最大、保存完整的古代宫殿建筑群，1987年故宫入选《世界文化遗产》名录。
