Transforming Our Lives in the Face of Crisis

We need to adapt to the global crisis. Rather than prop up the existing system, which continues to pollute the planet and accelerate climate change, adaptation asks that we honestly face the possibility of societal collapse. As we realize that our governments are not going to save us, we need to take responsibility, going beyond attitudes of apathy, denial and alienation to face the fragility of our situation which is the result of our inaction. Rather than talking about distant targets, we need to take action now to transform ourselves and our communities. One of the most immediate ethical actions is to stop eating animals and to change to a mostly plant based diet. That would restore habitat for wild animals, halt massive greenhouse gas emissions and bring back critical carbon sinks including forests, marine pastures and soils. We must work with Nature, reconnect with other human beings, and halt the destruction of our biosphere. We can find the key to work together with energy and confidence by rediscovering our unity.
