Arthroscopic meniscal surgery - or how to treat meniscal damage - explained in 3D! The meniscus acts like a shock absorber in the joint between the femur and the tibia, and can suffer two types of damage that can be repaired by meniscal surgery. In the first case, a flap, or a mobile fragment, forms in the joint. The rubbing of the cartilage causes discomfort and pain. The procedure consists in removing this fragment, called a meniscal bell clapper. The second trauma is on the contrary peripheral: the lesion is located in a zone where it can heal. In this case, miniature instruments are used to suture the lesion. The meniscus is not affected. Carried out arthroscopically through small incisions using a camera to visualize the joint, meniscal surgery guarantees an almost inexistent scar and faster recovery.
