Good Information REJAZZ - Father Stretch My Hands (Kanye West)

Good Information plays the music of Kanye West with the Vertex Quartet. This presentation of creative work is supported by the MacEwan University Office of Research Services is part of a series of shows presented over the past 3 years called REJAZZ - featuring arrangements of popular hip-hop artist’s music for our quartet setting. Thus far we have performed the music of Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, A Tribe Called Quest, and most recently, Frank Ocean. The inclusion of a string-quartet has become a dominant element in Third Stream music, which is a term that refers to contemporary music that marries classical and jazz music. This is a significant corner of the contemporary music landscape that continues to evolve, irrespective of genre boundaries. Some of our favourite artists in the jazz tradition who have explored writing for string quartet include: Ambrose Akinmusire, Esperanza Spalding, Alfa Mist, Linda May Han Oh, and the E.S.T. But the ensemble can be traced back to the Max Roach Double Quartet in the 80’s and beyond. Video by Lex Milo.
