The CRAZY LIVES Of The Georgian Queens Sophia Dorothea of Celle (1666–1726): Sophia Dorothea was the first wife of King George I of Great Britain. She was a German princess who married George I in 1682. Their marriage was troubled, and they were separated in 1694. Sophia Dorothea was later imprisoned by her husband’s political intrigues and spent the rest of her life in exile. Despite her dramatic personal life, she was known for her strong character and resilience. Queen Caroline of Ansbach (1683–1737): The wife of King George II, Caroline was known for her intelligence and political acumen. She played a key role in promoting the Whig party and supported the Enlightenment. Her patronage of the arts and her involvement in political matters made her a prominent figure of her time. Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1744–1818): Married to King George III, Charlotte was a beloved queen known for her charitable work and support of the arts. She was the mother of 15 children and was deeply involved in the development of Kew Gardens, which became one of her lasting legacies. Caroline of Brunswick (1768–1821): Caroline was the wife of King George IV of the United Kingdom. Her marriage to George IV was fraught with conflict, and the couple lived apart for much of their married life. Caroline was known for her strong-willed and outspoken nature, often clashing with her husband and the royal court. Despite the difficulties, she remained a figure of public interest and controversy until her death.
