The Southern Nevada Health District identified the first Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in Clark County on May 31, 2017. This is the species that can spread diseases like Zika, dengue fever, and chikungunya. Although the Aedes mosquitoes have been found in Southern Nevada, it does not mean that there will automatically be more illnesses, but it is an important reminder to take steps to eliminate mosquito breeding sources and prevent mosquito bites.
