This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Q-tips, vinegar, and ice: what can we learn from ingenious health prevention techniques used in rural Ghana to help us tackle problems in our own communities? In this high-energy talk, Deanna Lewis demonstrates how to use asset-mapping, and suggests that the solutions to challenges we face may be closer than we think. Deanna Lewis the founder of Dequenesh Community Clinic. For the past ten years she has spent her time as a physician assistant. A graduate of Stanford’s Primary Care Associate Program her emphasis in health care has always been the medically underserved patient populations, with the goal of increasing access to health and wellness services. She completed her MBA at the U of A Eller School of Management, completed two years as a U of A/NASA Space Grant Fellow for Photovoltaic Outreach & Education and is currently a fourth year doctoral student at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. Her research interests include Global Health, Women's Reproductive Health (with an emphasis on cervical cancer screening) and asset mapping. In her spare time she enjoys international travel, hiking, problem-solving, running, soap making and is an occasional tree-climber.
