As the special train season draws to a close in Carlisle, Saturday saw two arrivals - both postponed from previous dates - on an afternoon when the weather gods proved unkind to our visitors. The Cumbrian Mountain Express had left Euston, electrically hauled, 42 minutes late - sorry - I don't know the reason. The diesel hauled (two Class 37s) Settle and Carlisle had departed from Newport, South Wales at 05.04 to travel north by the Settle & Carlisle line, returning via Shap. It wasn't only the weather that was unkind to us - the Carlisle signalmen sent several trains into platforms other than the ones scheduled, thus playing havoc with our filming. The next couple of months are looking very bleak from the steam train perspective with little for me to film so - enjoy this longer than usual episode.
