Let's Go Flying! Camarillo to Big Bear and Arrowhead

Dan flies his Cessna Cardinal 177RG from Camarillo Airport to Big Bear Airport to view Lake Arrowhead and the San Bernardino and San Gabriel mountains. Come along on a Sunday drive - Dan style - over a big slice of Southern California’s amazingly varied terrain, from its Pacific coast and across the cities to its high mountain lakes. Following east-west trending mountains, this late spring flight also hops from lake to lake and one Hollywood movie location to another. This film is also about the techniques and feel of private aviation, both when flying free as well as plugged into air traffic control. Close approaches to terrain are enhanced with glorious QHD video. Geographic features are labeled for the pleasure of identifying points of interest and learning about the region. Starting from Camarillo Airport, we fly due east to Ventura County’s Hidden Valley, home to celebrities and scene of countless movies, and then over Lake Sherwood (named for Robin Hood’s Sherwood Forest) and Westlake Lake. We continue over the Santa Monica Mountains and its amazing views of Los Angeles. Jump to departure from Big Bear Airport and a tour of Big Bear Lake. Working our way west into the sunset, we fly by Snow Valley Ski Resort and then take a good look at Lake Arrowhead. Further west takes us by Mt. Baldy and the famous observatories of Mt. Wilson. We arrive back in Camarillo just in time to see what happens when the control tower closes for the evening.
