I Love You – Omer Faruk Tekbilek | Live session in Casa Rosa, Barcelona

Omer Faruk Tekbilek’s piece I Love You, in our own arrangement and free playing, one sunny day in Casa Rosa, in Barcelona. Omer Faruk Tekbilek is a Turkish musician and composer, who plays ney (Turkish flute). His music is influenced by sufi music, and Turkish music. I Love You is one of his best known and most beautiful pieces. It is suited to relaxation, and meditation. Our arrangement uses the Kanun (قانون), or qanun, an instrument similar to the western harp, but because the player can change the tuning of each string, it has a wider variety of notes. The next instrument is the Turkish clarinet, and I'm of course on the guitar, accompanying in my style of Mediterranean guitar. The harmony I use can be seen as modal harmony. It's based on chords we play also in western music, but the way we move with them is different than western regular songs. We did our own arrangement, though without planning to much, just flowing with the music and seeing where it taks us, it was all made in one take without interruptions. The wonderful dancer Dandara joined in a free improvisation of a whirling dance.
