Building A Custom 1929 Model A Rat Rod with Military Surplus from GovLiquidation.com

http://www.GovLiquidation.com // Shadyside, OH // Restoration, customization, restomods, whatever your poison, you'll be fascinated by this one-of-a-kind 1929 Hupmobile Model A Rat Rod built by Will Windsheimer. "When I got the car, there was hardly any roof left," Windsheimer says. "You could probably just tear the whole car apart with your bare hands." He adds, "It's been completely rebuilt with Government Liquidation surplus." "I have a 6.2 Diesel [engine] purchased from GL," Windsheimer explains. "On the inside, we used military surplus to do all the reupholstering. Everything on bottom is desert tan, the back is the olive drab, and these are surplus sleeping bag covers." The tail lights are from a 5 ton cargo truck, and the hood ornament is made from timing gears that came from a 6.2 Diesel engine as well. The plan from the beginning was to power them with WVO [waste vegetable oil]. "This whole automobile runs on used vegetable oil so you're getting 42 miles a gallon on basically a waste product," he says. It's not just surplus that makes this rat rod special. "One of the neat things about the car was the steering wheel," Windsheimer explains. Made up of about 20 different pieces of wood, he had to disassemble, reattach and refinish it. "It's a little bit ratty, it's not perfect, and that's what makes it so cool." He also explains that the shifter is made of old wrenches that belonged to his grandfather. The rat rod has a custom dipstick and oil cap [which is a hand grenade]. Windsheimer says he's hoping to test drive it to the East Coast soon. "With a 42 gallon tank, I should get about 1100 miles before I have to find a restaurant and fill up again." He would also like to take the car out west for a cross country tour. "Thanks to Government Liquidation, I plan on doing all that on waste vegetable oil for practically nothing," he says. And thanks to his own ingenuity, Windsheimer made his dream of owning a rat rod come true. To view a current list of available surplus engines, visit http://bit.ly/allGLengines today.
