EDITS FOR THIS TUTORIAL: Note that you need to cut a 2 1/4" x 23 1/2" strip from Fabric A and C not B! -After cutting your hst’s out of your strips, they should measure 3”, trim to 2 ½” Winter getting you down? Follow along with us and think of Spring! Learn to make a Tulip block featuring Wonderful Things Fabrics. We will be learning to create HST’s using the strip tube method and easy ways to save time with your patchwork projects. Fabrics Used Fabric A- WOT-21407 -Blooming Brook Moon Fabric B- WOT-21401-Splendid Oath Rain Fabric C-WOT-21406- Subtle Journey East Fabric D- PE-433- Snow Cutting Directions Fabric A- Four (4) 2 1/2" squares One (1) 2 1/4" x 23 1/2" strip Fabric B- One (1) 1 1/2" x 9" One (1) 1 1/2" square Fabric C- One (1) 1 1/2" x 9" strip Four (4) 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" strips One (1) 2 1/4" x 23 1/2" strip Fabric D- Four (4) 1 1/2" 4 1/2" strips Block Instructions Place a 2 1/4" x 23 1/2" strip from Fabric A and C right sides together. Sew at 1/4" on each long side of your strips. Place the 45 degree line on your ruler over the bottom edge of your strip with the ruler edge going through the top left corner. Rotate the ruler and place the 45 degree line on your top seam line and the ruler edge with the bottom seam. Continue cutting down the strip using this method until you get 8 hst’s. You should get 3" unfinished HST’s. Trim your blocks to 2 1/2" . Sew a 1 1/2" x 9" strip from Fabric B and C together. Press seam to one side and sub cut 1 1/2" inch strips. You will need four of these. Next sew these pieces to a 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" strip from Fabric C. You will get four units. Place all your pieces out in front of you how they will be sewn. Pin pieces together and start chain piecing. Press pieces and place them out in front of you again to sew up four units that look like this.! Sew a 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" strip inbeween each unit. Your final step is to sew a 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" strip from Fabric D to each side of a 1 1/2" square from Fabric B. Sew this center strip inbewteen your two quilt block pieces.
