THIS IS REAL BANGKOK STREET FOOD! About the area: The Bangkok Flower Market, known locally as Pak Khlong Talat, is the largest wholesale and retail fresh flower market in Bangkok, Thailand. Here’s an overview of what makes it a fascinating destination: Location Pak Khlong Talat is situated near the Chao Phraya River, close to the Memorial Bridge (Saphan Phut) and not far from the city's famous landmarks such as the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. History The market's origins date back to the early 18th century during the reign of King Rama I, when it was initially a floating market. Over time, it evolved from being a fish market to a produce market, and eventually to a flower market in the mid-20th century. Offerings: Orchids: A Thai specialty, available in many vibrant colours and varieties. Roses: In numerous shades, often used for garlands and offerings. Lotus: Commonly used in religious ceremonies. Jasmine: Frequently used for garlands. Marigolds: Popular for ceremonial use. In addition to fresh flowers, Pak Khlong Talat also offers floral arrangements, garlands, and flower-related accessories. You can find everything from single stems to elaborate bouquets. Atmosphere The market operates 24 hours a day, though it's most active late at night and early in the morning, when wholesalers and retailers stock up. The atmosphere is lively and bustling, filled with the scents of fresh flowers and the vibrant colors of countless blooms. Cultural Significance Pak Khlong Talat plays an important role in Thai culture, as flowers are deeply integrated into daily life and religious practices. Thais buy flowers for home decoration, religious offerings, and special occasions like weddings and festivals. Visiting Tips Best Time to Visit: Early morning or late at night for the full experience and to see the market at its busiest. Accessibility: The market is accessible by taxi, tuk-tuk, MRT from Sanam Chai or river ferry. It's also a short walk from the Memorial Bridge (Saphan Phut) and nearby attractions. 00:00 intro 01:13 Uncle cooking 07:06 Eating pad kaprao 13:02 The Flower Market ________________________________________________________________________ If you’d like to support my little channel: Straight to Bank (no fees): https://monzo.me/garymarkbutler Paypal: https://paypal.me/theroamingcook https://www.buymeacoffee.com/garybutler Get a t-shirt here: https://my-store-c4478c.creator-sprin... I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this YouTube channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have! If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!
