He emphasised that traditional farms hold unique value, with land-raised strains that may possess profiles capable of treating severe conditions. Shiny equipment parked at the mothballed St Andrew lab for over two years reflects the lack of progress in research aimed at improving crop production and developing value-added products. Ellis mentioned ongoing efforts to revive the lab, representing a significant investment of over US$1 million (J$158 million) now sitting idle.
