Police chief speaks on sergeant's alleged protocol breach following release of body camera video

Webster, N.Y. (WHAM) — The Webster Police Department says a sergeant broke department protocol and has been placed on administrative leave following an interaction with an off-duty Rochester police officer. Webster Police Sergeant Michael Wilder responded to a call April 1 on Orchard Street in the village of Webster. Upon arrival, he found an off-duty RPD officer in his personal car, according to Webster Police Chief Dennis Kohlmeier. "The initial dispatch was for a person passed out in a vehicle in the driving lane," Kohlmeier explained. "He began an interaction with the operator of the vehicle, and shortly into it, he ended up turning off his body camera, which is against our policy." In the body-worn camera footage shared with 13WHAM Wednesday, Wilder is heard telling the officer that he can go home, but said he cannot drive in his current condition.
