I'm back on the banks of the River Trent this week match fishing the Nottingham Piscatorial Society Fiskerton stretch with the Yorkshire Bandit Angling Club. After my first visit to the NPS Fiskerton stretch last year, I knew that this length of the River Trent varies greatly in depth with the upper pegs seeing 18ft and the lower ones around 6ft so a wide variety of tackle would be needed to cover all eventualities. I also wished last year that I'd taken a heavy feeder rod setup to hold in the powerful flows across as I felt there were some chub under the far bank trees on on that peg that I was unable to target such is the power of the Trent, so this year I made sure I had that piece of kit with me. If a barbel happened to come along, this rod would be equipped with tackle strong enough to stop them. Outright barbel fishing on the River Trent is a big gamble during a match so the plan was to put out some bait to tempt them but also to fish for bream, perch and chub on the worm or pellet and if I felt brave I'd stick a boilie on. The backup plan was to loose feed maggots and fish various float lines for the roach and other silver fish using either whip, stick float or waggler depending on the conditions.
