Bananas in Coconut Milk also known in Thai as ‘Gluay Buad Chee’. The literal translation of the name of this dessert is “ Banana Becomes a Nun “ because the bananas are drenched in white coconut sauce which resemble Thai nuns’ white robes. Nevertheless, this dessert is simple but oh so delicious. It is gluten-free & vegan 🍌 Gluay Nam Wa = Saba Banana , Pisang Awak ( Scientific name: Musa acuminata × balbisiana ) ____________________________________________ Recipe: Banana - 17 individual Thick coconut cream - 500 ml ( save half for near the end ) Water - 250 ml Salt - 1 teaspoon Sugar - 150 g Palm sugar - 50 g Pandan leaf - 1 leaf - How To - Cut both end of the banana and cook them in boiling water ( add a pinch of salt to this ) for 7-10 minutes or until the skin loosen. Drop in cold water. Cut 1 banana into 4 pieces then set aside. (Use low heat throughout the coconut sauce making process) (Never let your coconut cream boil, gentle simmer only) Add in equal ratio of coconut cream and water into a pan and stir on low heat. Add in sugar, salt and palm sugar. Stir and follow by crushed pandan leaf. Add in cooked and sliced bananas. Combine.
