ACTIVE vs PASSIVE pickups: EMG DG20 vs Fender Eric Johnson on a Fender Stratocaster '57 replica

Best prices on Thomann: » Fender Eric Johnson pickup set: https://www.thomann.de/it/fender_eric... » EMG DG20: https://www.thomann.de/it/emg_dg20_da... Hi guys! This is a quick comparison between active and passive single coils. I did it also for myself, to try to understand how much this incredible 80's EMG David Gilmour pickups were responsible for the particular sound of this guitar. The great guitar I'm using is a Fender '57 replica, made by APS Guitars. As I said at the end of the video, the passive Fender set has a lot more output compared to the active EMG set (which has a low output, in general); moreover the Fender set has more mids, whereas the EMG set is thinner. The Eric Johnson set appears to have more presence too, but it depends also from the no-load pots, that I left completely bypassed. Probably, if I could, I'd keep both configurations, because with the EMG's you have a guitar that is perfect for sparkly crystal cleans and with the Fender's you have a more versatile guitar, that responds more "standard" and that gives his best in a more extended range of tones. Considering that I have just one Strat now, I think I'll keep with my new Fender pickups!
